Cardiac One Risk Evaluation (CORE) Program

The CORE Program was created to provide a preliminary screening for cardiovascular disease for firefighters in Colorado to comply with State Statute 14-172 regarding firefighter cardiovascular health benefits. Please see the website for the Colorado Firefighter Heart and Circulatory Trust (http://cfhtrust.com) for more information.

This program may be performed at your location for additional cost or at our facility on the CSU campus in Fort Collins, CO at no additional cost. On-site testing requires at least ten individuals for testing.

The program includes all required components for the preliminary screening:

  • Resting 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG)
  • Fasting glucose
  • Fasting lipids
  • Height
  • Weight
  • Waist circumference
  • Resting blood pressure
  • Review of other risk factors including family and personal health history and smoking habits

Based on the results of the screenings, we will recommend the next level test(s). The next recommended tests are based on the physician interpretation of the ECG and number of risk factors. Physician interpretation of the ECG may take up to one week.

We will also provide verification that the screening was performed as required by the State Statute to apply for benefits.

The cost for each individual firefighter is $50 in addition to travel costs. Contact the Colorado Firefighter Heart and Circulatory Trust to determine if your agency qualifies for reimbursement for the cost of the screening. We encourage fire agencies to work with neighboring fire agencies to reduce the travel costs by sharing the cost among agencies.
